The studio
A creator on EidoOS uploads a video, sets channel and episode metadata, and publishes. Behind that:
- Per-title encoding. Each video is encoded to hit a target perceptual score (VMAF) measured on that video, not a fixed bitrate ladder. The old ladder produced VMAF from 67.8 to 93.6 at the same price — quality was random per title. Now it is consistent, and viewers pay for bytes the picture actually needs.
- Codec choice. x265 and AV1 cut delivered bytes 53–60 % at equal quality versus the previous encoder; fragmented MP4 saved a further 5.4 %. Under pay-per-use, fewer bytes is a lower bill for the same picture.
- Measured billing basis. The studio records each rendition's real size and duration, so billing uses delivered bytes rather than the encoder's ceiling (which had overcharged 1.8×).
The channel format
A channel with episodes, seasons and a page — the familiar shape of a video channel — complete and tested. A creator's 70 % accrues per view against the channel.
Tests
199 backend, 157 client. The four economic holes (heavy-viewer pricing, nominal billing, unbilled downloads, self-charging progress counter) each have a regression test.
Encoding lessons that came from PhoonoS
The sister audio product's five rounds of measurement fed EidoOS's pipeline: measure inside the production container (a codec library six years newer quadrupled savings); sample the way production samples (a 40-second window was 5 dB off); do not buy CPU for low-resolution encodes (x265 gained 6 % from 4× the cores). The two pipelines now share the method — and not the cost constant, which differs between them for reasons verified on 2 September.
What stands between the studio and a creator
- A public backend. The cloud project has its database, rules and indexes; storage and compute are blocked on billing.
eidoos.comdoes not resolve. - A store release. Internal testing on Google Play; a signed 0.1.1 bundle verified.
- A first creator. None yet.
Games
The page this replaces listed game genres at a festival. EidoOS is not a games platform; a live stream of someone playing one is a video like any other, billed by the megabyte, 70 % to the streamer. That is as close as this page gets.
Based on the EidoOS status (2026-08-24), the EidoOS compression measurements and the PhoonoS pipeline notes.
