Measuring Activity Honestly: The Numbers That Would Have Caught a Silent Testnet

The lesson

A chain produces blocks whether or not anyone uses it. Block height, finality lag and uptime were all green during the 102,912 blocks in which EmpoorioChain carried no signed transaction. The dashboard measured the chain's heartbeat, not its use.

What is tracked now

Chain use

Signed transactions per day — the number that was missing. Zero until 7 September 2026.
Unique signing accounts per era.
DIDs registered (identitySsi.Dids count): 1, on 14 September.
DEX swaps settled: first on 14 September.
EVM transactions accepted: since runtime 211.
Assets created in pallet-assets; NFTs minted (Warehouse passports are the first real ones).

Network

Validators from Session::Validators (2). Finality p50/p95/p99. Best–finalized lag. RPC error rate.

Ecosystem

Apps in production on Google Play (7) and in testing (6), read from the store API, not from a slide.
Verified operations in Eoonia's integration matrix (35/43 native, 43/43 EVM).
Features connected to a real backend in the commerce apps (232/279), from a screen-by-screen inventory.
Documents verified against the live chain (each carries a date and spec version).

Adapters uploaded, validated and implemented (first real one 8 September). Datasets catalogued (421). Rewards paid (0).

What is not published

Developer counts. No way to measure honestly; GitHub stars measure marketing.
TPS. Weights are hand-written; the only measured figure is a 700-transaction burst.
Users. The commerce apps have users, in fiat, in Spain; the chain has accounts, almost all the team's. Conflating them would be the vanity metric this ecosystem removed from its site ("50K+ active users" with no instrumentation behind it).
Market data. DMS has no market.

Where the numbers live

RED.json for network parameters; artifacts/performance/, artifacts/fees/, artifacts/decentralization/ for measurements, each dated; the Play Developer API for app status; the audits' inventories for feature connectivity. This blog's status posts cite the file versions they were written against.

The rule

Measure the thing you claim. If the claim is people use this, count signed transactions, not blocks. If the claim is this is done, show the real transaction, not the test. A metric that stays green while the system is unused is a metric about something else.
